Transport entrepreneurs staged a protest on the Maitighar-Baber Mahal road in Kathmandu on Sunday.
The Central Struggle Committee to Save Public Transport had announced the protest during a press conference in Kathmandu on Tuesday.
Eight organizations have also declared an indefinite nationwide transport strike from Monday.
The transport entrepreneurs have put forward a seven-point demand.
Their demands include the revocation of the rules introduced by all seven provincial governments that conflict with the provisions of the Motor Vehicles and Transport Management Act.
They have especially demanded that the regulations introduced by the Gandaki province government for operating private vehicles (with red plates) be scrapped immediately.
Transport entrepreneurs claim that these regulations have adversely affected public transport.
Their demands also include mandatory implementation of a contribution-based social security fund for workers employed in the public transport sector. This is expected to ensure social security for workers.
