Joint Secretary Tirtha Raj Bhattarai arrested

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has arrested Joint Secretary Tirtha Raj Bhattarai, former chief immigration officer of the Immigration Office, Tribhuvan International Airport.

A team from the CIAA conducted a raid at the Immigration Office and took Bhattarai into custody on Wednesday afternoon, according to a source.

Bhattarai had just been transferred to the Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday. Bishnu Prasad Koirala, who was Panchthar’s chief district officer, has been transferred to the Immigration Office to replace Bhattarai.

The CIAA has not yet made an official announcement regarding Bhattarai's detention.
