Police have arrested Shiv Sena Nepal President Anil Basnet, also known as Anil Baba.
Basnet was arrested on Sunday from Sukedhara in Kathmandu, according to Superintendent of Police Apil Raj Bohara at the District Police Range, Kathmandu.
Police had obtained an arrest warrant against Basnet for offenses against the state in connection with the royalists’ protest in Tinkune on March 28.
He had been evading arrest after the protest.
On March 28, a protest led by Durga Prasai, who was designated “People’s Commander” by the Nawaraj Subedi-led “Joint People’s Movement Committee”, was held in Tinkune of Kathmandu.
The protest turned violent, resulting in the deaths of two people, as well as arson attacks on government vehicles, private homes, and a herb processing center.
Police arrested Basnet on the charge of involvement in the incident.
Durga Prasai, RPP Senior Vice-chairman Rabindra Mishra, and others were also arrested on different charges after the incident. They are in police custody for investigation.
