It has been confirmed that a Nepali national was among those killed in a terrorist attack on a group of tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, India, on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as 27-year-old Sudeep Neupane.
Sudeep was a resident of ward no. 14 in Butwal Sub-metropolitan City, said Dadhiraj Neupane, the ward chairman. Dadhiraj is Sudeep’s uncle.
According to Dadhiraj, Sudeep was walking on the road when gunmen suddenly opened fire on him after asking which religious group he belonged to. Sudeep, who had been living with his mother in Kalikanagar, Butwal-11, was studying public health in Dharan.
Sudeep had gone to Kashmir with his mother Rima Pandey, sister Sushma, and brother-in-law Ujjwal Kafle for a vacation on Saturday, Dadhiraj said.
Preparations are underway to bring Sudeep’s body back to Nepal on Wednesday, he added.
"Preparations are underway to bring his body from Kashmir to Delhi and from Delhi to Kathmandu. I am currently on my way to Kathmandu," Dadhiraj said.
Butwal Mayor Khelraj Pandey also confirmed that the youth killed in the terrorist attack in Pahalgam was a resident of Butwal.
The other family members who had accompanied Sudeep are reported to be safe, according to Dadhiraj.
