The Indian government has shown interest to undertake study of the Kathmandu-Raxaul railway.
The Indian team is eager to come Nepal for further study, according to the Department of Railway, the government is yet to grant permission for its arrival due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The department has asked the Home Ministry to allow the arrival of Indian team but it may take a couple of months for that to happen due to the raging pandemic. “Once the COVID-19 pandemic weakens, the study process would gain momentum,” a department official said.
The agreement for the construction of the railway was signed in presence of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi on the sideline of the fourth BIMSTEC Summit which was held in Nepal two years back. It was agreed that the Indian government would undertake the study for investment and technology.
