A youth campaigning against illegal extraction of stones and sand has been killed by a tipper in Dhanusha on Friday.
Dilip Kumar Mahato, 24, of Mithila municipality 4 Sripur was hit by the tipper (Na 7 Kha 6413) while he was on morning walk at around 4:30 Friday morning. He died on the spot.
Inspector at the Area Police Post Ram Kumar Yadav told Setopati that the incident looks like a pre-planned murder. The police reached the spot immediately after the incident and took the body and the tipper under control.
Mahato was doing engineering in India. He had been opposing illegal mining of stones and sand from local rivers.
Locals claim that he has been murdered by crusher owners for opposing sand and stone mining. They burnt tires at the local Ram Laxman Chowk in protest.
