Fourteen of the 17 persons who died in the bus accident near Sukute along the Araniko Highway Suday have been identified. The bus (Ba. 2 Kha. 7245) was heading toward Kathmandu from Mude Deurali of Dolakha when the accident took place.
According to District Police Office, Sindhupalchowk, the deceased are Chet Kumari Basnet, 52, a resident of Sailung-6, Dolakha, six-year-old Salina Tamang, three-month-old Roshan Tamang of Sailung-3, Chameli Shrestha, 27, of the same locality, Ratna Kumari Rawat, 45, Kiran Rawat, 29, Kabita Rawat, 20, Nikhil Khadka,14, of Sailung-5, and Dil Lama,14, of Sailung-4 and 32-year-old Nirmala Khadka of Sailung-3.
Likewise, others who died in the accident have been identified as five-year-old Sajina Tamang of Kavre Roshi-4, Urmaya Tamang, 70, of Dolakha, Ranjita KC, 24, of Bhimeswar municipality-9, six-year-old Maya Shrestha of Tripura Sundari-4, Sindhupalchowk , according to DSP Madhav Prasad Kafle. The identity of three children is not yet known.
The bus was reportedly carrying more than 40 passengers when it fell 35 meters below the road and plunged into the Sunkoshi river. Many passengers are suspected to have been swept away by the river, as rescue work continues. The accident took place at around 1:15 pm.
