Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has been conferred an honorary PhD degree by a South Korean Christian university.
Kangnam University
, a private university in Yongin, South Korea, has conferred the degree for his contribution to Nepali politics. He was awarded the degree amidst a special event co-organized by the Tribhuvan University at the Nepali Army Institute of Health Sciences in Sanobharyang Wednesday.
"We pursue truth, freedom, equality and welfare and foster talented individuals who practice gyeongcheonaein (to worship the heavens and cherish humankind) under the Christianity spirit and humanitarian ideal for society and humankind," says the university's website about its founding spirit.
This is the fourth honorary PhD degree for Oli who has completed just SLC in formal education.
One Greenford International University, said to be situated in America, had conferred the first honorary doctorate degree on him amidst some controversy in 2010.
Govinda Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology in Uttarakhand, India, had also awarded Oli with honorary doctorate in science during his India visit in April last year.
Similarly, UN University for Peace of Costa Rica had awarded the degree of ‘doctor honoris causa’ to Oli in the country's capital San Jose on October 1, 2018 for his contribution to achieving peace and democracy in Nepal.
