Nepal Disabled Women Association (NDWA) has voiced that the government should accord priority to the rights of women with disabilities. "The status of disabled women has not much changed and is still painful even in democratic republic society as they continue to be victimized under several circumstances," it is said at the NDWA's 19th AGM Tuesday.
On the occasion, NDWA chair Nirmala Dhital said the Association has arranged for a hostel facility on its behalf for disabled women.
Province 3 State Assembly member Kusum Kumar Karki said required laws had been formulated to guarantee the rights of disabled while Kathmandu Metropolitan City deputy mayor Hari Prabha Khadgi said the metropolis budget allocations includes the budget for disabled as well. She underlined the need of transforming all public structures and building into disabled-friendly ones.
According to section officer from the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens, Om Bhattarai who was also present on the occasion, local levels have been already instructed to take measures to ensure the rights of disabled.
