The government has removed the odd-even provision it had implemented on vehicles inside the Kathmandu Valley for traffic management during the Asia Pacific Summit being held in Kathmandu.
The Metropolitan Traffic Division issuing a press statement on Friday has said the odd-even provision has been removed effective from 11:30 Friday morning on instruction of the Home Ministry.
The division earlier had implemented the odd-even provision for four days effective from Thursday. Only the vehicles with odd registration numbers were allowed on the roads on Thursday while only even numbers were allowed Friday.
The commoners suffered due to the provision on Thursday and Friday morning with only half of the vehicles plying on the roads. There were crowds of people at various places waiting for vehicles to return home till late Thursday evening.
The government’s decision to enforce the provision at the cost of public suffering for an event organized by an INGO was widely criticized.
