The government is to carry out works keeping in priority the reconstruction and conservation of important monuments related to the country’s independence and sovereignty.
In this connection, the Ministry of Defense has prepared an action plan for the reconstruction and conservation of seven forts of historical importance within the coming five years in the first phase, spokesperson for the ministry, Baburam Gautam, said.
The ancient forts to be renovated and conserved in the first phase include the Sindhuli, Makawanpur, Chisapani, Jitpur, Nuwakot, Hariharpur and Upardanggadhi. The Ministry plans to give the responsibility of reconstruction and conservation of these forts to the Nepali Army.
The local levels and the provinces have been giving priority to highlight and protect the ancient forts and monuments located within their borders, after the country adopted federalism.
It is stated that the Army will carry out this task with an investment of Rs 215.9 million. The reconstruction and preservation of these ancient heritage sites would also help in the promotion of tourism in the areas.
