Doctors say Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli, who is down with cold and fever, does not have chest infection.
Doctor at Bir Hospital Dilip Sharma, part of the team of doctors attending PM Oli, told Setopati that PM Oli has fever but does not have chest infection. "His kidney is in first class condition. We have advised rest for three days," Dr Sharma stated. He clarified that PM Oli has not been advised treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Press advisor to PM Kundan Aryal told Setopati that PM Oli will chair the Cabinet meeting scheduled for later Sunday. The Cabinet meeting scheduled earlier for Friday was postponed in the eleventh hour. PM Oli also missed the tea party organized by the ruling Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) at Bhrikuti Mandap on Saturday due to health problems.
PM Oli had a kidney transplant 11 years ago and uses immunosuppressants to ensure that his immune system does not attack the foreign organ. A minor infection can have serious implications due to the compromised immune system. He has been going to Bangkok, Thailand for routine check-ups in recent years.
Nephrologist Dr Divya Singh has been attending to PM Oli as personal doctor. A team of doctors including Dr Sharma is currently attending to him as Dr Singh is currently out of the country.
