The 1st Asian Studies Conference has kicked off here Thursday.
Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Prasad Adhikari inaugurated the conference.
Organized in collaboration with the Center for Advanced Studies in South Asia (CASSA), the conference aims to discuss a wider issues of gender equality, women empowerment and development of literature, arts and culture of South Asia, said the organizer.
The total 94 representatives (84 foreigners and 10 Nepalis) have participated in the three days conference where various 80 types of working papers in the fields of culture, media and communication, gender and society, art, history and nation, religion, economic and development will be presented.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Minister Adhikari expressed his belief that the conclusions that such conference has reached would benefit Nepal and participating countries.
Likewise, former Chief Justice Kalyan Shrestha stressed the need for empowering women and alleviating poverty for gender justice.
The CASSA with which intellectuals from Nepal, India, China, Bangladesh, Germany, Macedonia and Pakistan are affiliated holds the conference every year. The conference is scheduled to take place in India next year.
