Nepal Medical Association on Sunday shut down all its services except the emergency in all the hospitals across the country demanding reforms in the General Code that came into effect from August 17.
The Association has scheduled to hold a demonstration at 10 am at Maitighar Mandala and to return the licenses to the Nepal Medical Council at 12 pm.
The Association is preparing to submit as many as 5,000 licenses to the Council.
The Criminal Code has made some provisions that if a patient dies due to doctor's negligence during treatment, s/he would face a five-year jail term and would have to pay Rs 50,000 in fine. The doctors have been raising their voices for the reforms in the General Code showing their dissatisfaction over such provisions.
Meanwhile, the Association also informed that district branches across the country will also stage a demonstration in front of the district administration offices.
"All of the health workers and doctors are requested to join along with aprons in the protest programs being held at Maitighar Mandala in the Capital and district administration offices in various district branches at 10 am," a press release issued by the Association stated.
