The District Traffic Police Office (DTPO) in Banke has launched an awareness campaign in view of the increasing road accidents in the district.
The traffic police have also stepped up the cross-checking in the roads of both the urban and rural areas to ascertain whether the drivers/riders have consumed alcohol and flouted the traffic rules.
Furthermore, the traffic police are also providing orientation class to those flouting the rules, according to the Police Inspector at the DTPO, Banke, Hirendra Rokaya.
Inspector Rokaya shared that the cross-checking in the road has been carried out in the road mostly opted by the drivers when they are drunk or drive and ride without carrying license.
Similarly, the traffic police here are to tighten the noose against the public buses carrying overload of passengers and fleecing passengers.
The Inspector urged the passengers and onlookers to inform the traffic police upon the sight of the public vehicles carrying passengers beyond capacity. He said that the drivers/riders not carrying the license while driving would be at problem if there is road accident.
According to him, those driving without license would be considered culprit if they met road accident. He added, "The insurance company tries to deny the compensation and could send the drivers to jail and make them pay the compensation."
Likewise, the traffic police have installed signboards alongside various places in the Nepalgunj-Kohalpur road section. "A bike skeleton has been installed at Popari of this road section," shared In charge of Traffic Check Post at Ranjha, Dinesh Kumar Pandit.
The road is witnessing increasing number of road accidents lately, according to Pandit. Among the road mishaps recorded in the district, those relating to two-wheelers especially the motorcycles accidents are the highest, added Pandit.
He is confident that the latest move of the traffic police would contribute to the minimization of the road accidents in the district.
