The Kathmandu-Kerung railway will start from Tokha. The report prepared by the China Railway First Survey Design Institute Group states that the railway line from Tokha to Rasuwagadhi will be 72 km.
A Nepali team led by Secretary at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Madhusudan Adhikari and the Chinese railway administration discussed on the pre-feasibility study on the railway line at Xian, Chine from August 19-22.
The Chinese team briefed that the major part of the railway will include bridge and tunnel.
The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure has issued a statement saying both the sides gave suggestions on the report but the statement does not reveal the suggestions. The statement reveals that the Chinese company will hand over the report soon.
The Chinese bore all the expenses for the study.
The Chinese company was selected after an agreement between officials of the two countries in Beijing in April end to conduct feasibility study for the railway line.
Chinese President Xi Jinping had expressed confidence that Chinese train will reach Kathmandu during the China visit of Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli in June. Xi had added that the team was already instructed to complete the report soon.
Nepal and India, meanwhile, will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Kathmandu-Raxaul railway in presence of Indian Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi who is arriving later this week to take part in the Fourth BIMSTEC Summit to be held in Kathmandu.
The MoU will only include the subject of pre-feasibility study, according to a source at the Department of Railways. India has already selected a company from Mumbai as consultant for the study.
Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali during the press conference on Friday had informed that the two countries will sign the MoU on Kathmandu-Raxaul railway.
