The Meteorological Forecasting Division has forecast heavy rainfall for two more days in the eastern tarai, and central and western parts of the country. The increasing water level in most of the rivers inside the Kathmandu Valley due to the incessant rainfall may also result in inundation in many settlements.
According to Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the water level in Nakkhu, Manohara, Bagmati, Dhobikhola and Bishnumati Rivers is increasing. The Department has urged those living on the banks of the rivers to remain alert.
Meanwhile, water level is also predicted to rise in Kankai and Kamala rivers by Monday afternoon. The Department has especially urged the people living in Dang, Banke, Bardiya, Kailali, Surkhet, Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Sindhuli districts to remain alert.
According to National Emergency Operation Center of the Ministry of Home Affairs, continuous rainfall has triggered landslides in Kavre and Gorkha whereas houses have collapsed in Banke. One person has been missing while trying to cross the flooded river in Bara.
Weather expert of the Meteorological Forecasting Division Samir Shrestha said that some parts of eastern tarai, mid and western parts are likely to receive downpour today and tomorrow. "Some parts are likely to receive heavy rainfall. The weather pattern will improve from Wednesday," Shrestha said.
Kathmandu recorded 44 mm of rainfall and Nepalgunj 64 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours.
