Police, who reached Kashigaon of Dharche rural municipality-6 in Gorkha to detain the youths involved in alleged dissection of the body of a 52-year-old man, were attacked on Saturday.
Police started an investigation into the incident after some youths dissected the body of Bhim Kumar Gurung, who died of hematemesis (vomiting of blood) on July 26, looking for snake, frog and lizard in his stomach suspecting he died of witchcraft.
A seven-member team from Manwu Police Station was attacked by local youths at Kashigaon. Two police personnel have been injured in the attack, according to District Police Office, Gorkha.
According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Bimal Basnet, police personnel have been mobilized to nab those involved in tearing up the corpse and against those who accused two women--Kali Gurung, 56, and her daughter Min Kumari, 29--of practicing witchcraft.
Som Maya Gurung, another daughter of Kali Gurung, filed a complaint at the District Police Office against those who accused her mother and sister of witchery.
The local representatives who reached to resolve the incident were also attacked. Kante Gurung and Aash Bahadur Ghale are injured after local youths attacked them.
Twelve police personnel including Inspector Sujan Karki from Area Police Office, Arughat and nine Armed Police Force (APF) personnel have been sent to the site.
