Three years have elapsed since the launch of the tuin (manual single cable crossing) elimination campaign some rural areas of the country are still making do with the riskier transport system for want of reliable means of transport.
At present, twenty six out of total 131 tuin are still in operation across the country, said Purushottam Nepal, joint secretary at the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration.
On 12 October 2015, the then government had directed concerned authorities to replace tuin within two years.
Recently on August 1, the incumbent government had directed respective district administration office and local level units to show prompt action to replace tuin. The country law has barred the construction of a new tuin.
The government has released budget approximately Rs 3.1 billion in the current fiscal to remove tuin in the next three years. Local level governments have been tasked with constructing tuin less than 120 meters in length, and the government itself will build tuin above the length.
