Sunil Kumar Sharma has narrowed the vote gap with Uday Shumsher Rana, who is currently in second place in the open-category general secretary race at the Nepali Congress’s 15th general convention.
Of the total 7,043 votes cast, 3,435 have been counted so far. Rana is in second place with 1,159 votes, while Sharma is trailing him with 934 votes, leaving a gap of 225 votes between the two.
In the previous round of vote counting, Rana was in second place with 786 votes, followed by Amar Singh Pun Magar with 695 votes. Sharma was in fourth place at the time with 526 votes.
In the latest count, Sharma has overtaken Pun to move up to third place.
Pun, who has dropped from third to fourth place, has received 819 votes.
Meanwhile, Pradip Paudel has maintained a substantial lead in the open-category general secretary race, securing 2,055 votes. He is ahead of Rana, who is in second place, by 896 votes.
Among other candidates, Gururaj Ghimire has received 678 votes, Nain Singh Mahar 428, Shankar Tiwari 82, and Santosh Upadhyaya 49 votes.
Two candidates are to be elected as general secretaries from the open category. Based on the vote count so far, Paudel is in first place and Rana is second. However, Sharma has narrowed the gap with Rana, making the contest for the second position increasingly competitive.
