Nepali Congress central member Minendra Rijal is set to contest for the post of party vice-president.
The Nepali Congress has a provision for four vice-presidents, including one senior vice-president.
Rijal is preparing to contest for vice-president under the open category.
“I have concluded that I will contest for the post of vice-president. I will file my candidacy,” he told Setopati.
Rijal was elected as a general convention representative from Morang.
The registration of candidacies for the party’s 15th general convention is taking place on Tuesday.
Rijal was a candidate for the post of general secretary at the Nepali Congress’s 14th general convention held in 2021.
So far, Rijal, parliamentary party leader Bhishma Raj Angdembe, former vice-president Dhanraj Gurung, former joint general secretary Jeevan Pariyar, spokesperson Devraj Chalise, central members Gyanendra Karki, Binod Chaudhary, and Govinda Bhattarai, Gandaki Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey, Chandra Bhandari, and others are preparing to contest for the vice-president post.
Pushpa Bhusal is preparing to contest for the woman vice-president position, while Bishwa Prakash Sharma is preparing to contest for the senior vice-president position.

Similarly, Nepali Congress central executive committee member Madhu Acharya has announced his candidacy for the post of vice-president.
While serving as the president of Nepali Congress Kavre chapter, Acharya had raised the issue of a democratic republic and later led a Mechi-Mahakali campaign focused on the agenda of transforming the party.
Acharya, who played an important role in various processes, including collection of signatures from general convention representatives during preparations for the special general convention, said that he was contesting for vice-president to fulfill the remaining responsibilities outlined by the special general convention.
“I am filing candidacy for the vice-president position under the open category,” he told Setopati.
Acharya has worked closely with party President Gagan Thapa and Vice-president Bishwa Prakash Sharma on organizational and other party activities. He is also the deputy head of the Central Policy, Research, and Training Academy, which is headed by Vice-president Sharma.
Acharya said that he decided to contest for vice-president with the objective of transforming the party in line with changing times, further strengthening its commitment to a democratic republic, and building a stronger organization.
