Nepali Congress central member Binod Chaudhary is preparing to file candidacy for the post of vice-president at the party’s 15th general convention.
Chaudhary, who is a general convention representative from Nawalparasi Constituency No. 1, has informed those close to him of his intention to contest for the post.
The Nepali Congress has proposed having four vice-presidents, including one senior vice-president.
Speaking to Setopati, Chaudhary said that he was on his way to attend the central committee meeting at Khula Manch and that he would formally make his position on his candidacy public only afterward.
Chaudhary was unanimously elected as a general convention representative from the Madheshi cluster.
He contested the House of Representatives election from the same constituency on March 5 but was defeated by the candidate from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).
Chaudhary also participated in the special general convention held in January, where he was elected to the central committee.
He was elected from the same constituency in the 2022 general election.
At the Nepali Congress’s 14th general convention, held from December 10 to 14, 2021, Chaudhary was elected a central committee member.
He also served as a proportional representation lawmaker in 2008 and 2017.
