Nepali Congress central member Abdul Sattar has announced his candidacy for the post of joint general secretary at the party’s 15th general convention.
Sattar announced his candidacy at a press conference held in Kupondole on Sunday.
The 15th general convention of the Nepali Congress is scheduled to begin on Sunday and continue until Thursday (October 8).
Sattar said that he will contest for the joint general secretary position under the Muslim quota.
He led the Nepali Muslim Association, a sister organization of the Nepali Congress, for 15 years. He has also been serving as a general convention representative and Mahasamiti member since the party’s 12th general convention.
Sattar was elected as a central member at the part’s 14th general convention, held in 2021. He was also elected to the central committee at the party’s special general convention held in January.
“I have been working in the party and its sister organization for a long time, and I announced my candidacy for the joint general secretary position after consultations with the party leadership,” he said. “There has been an understanding that there will be no panels at the general convention, so there will be competition.”
