Nepali Congress leader Prakash Sharan Mahat has said that former party president Sher Bahadur Deuba will not attend the inauguration of the 15th general convention being organized by the establishment faction.
The Nepali Congress led by Gagan Thapa is scheduled to hold its general convention in Kathmandu from October 4 to 8.
The establishment faction has been saying that it is ready to welcome Deuba as the chief guest at the general convention.
However, speaking at the office of the 15th general convention preparation committee in Kaski on Wednesday, Mahat said that Deuba would not attend the convention.
“Office bearers elected by the special general convention have been saying that Deuba will attend the inauguration. But Deuba has been saying that since he was elected chairman at the 14th general convention, he will hold the 15th general convention under his leadership and hand over the leadership. Is there really any confusion?” he said.
Mahat said that confusion had arisen regarding issues within the party because many Nepali Congress leaders and workers are not active on social media.
“Colleagues from across the country ask us, ‘Is Sher Bahadur-ji going to the convention? What should we do?’” he said.
Mahat said that a statement by Shashank Koirala referring to someone as a leader had also been taken out of context and circulated in a misleading manner.
“Sometimes it is said that Shashank Koirala called so-and-so a leader. That is out of context,” he said.
Mahat said that ward conventions would begin on Thursday and that they would stand on the side of the truth. He also said that, with the dispute over the special general convention currently before the court, he remained confident that they would receive justice.
