Chief Minister of Gandaki province Surendra Raj Pandey has inspected areas affected by floods and landslides in Manang district.
The Marsyangdi River was blocked in the district on Sunday. Chief Minister Pandey inspected the affected site on Wednesday.
During the inspection, CM Pandey discussed the condition of affected residents, the damage caused, and the immediate measures needed with local elected representatives, the District Security Committee, and heads of provincial government offices.
After reaching Chame, CM Pandey said that some houses were at risk because gravel and large rocks had accumulated there. He said that even a concrete bridge had been buried, and that necessary coordination and initiatives were being taken with the relevant agencies to clear the debris and make risk-reduction efforts more effective.
He also met directly with local residents and listened to their problems and demands. Pandey said that work would move forward by prioritizing the resumption of roads and transportation, drinking water supplies, food, housing, and reconstruction of damaged infrastructure.
He said that work that could be carried out immediately using resources from local governments and the provincial government would be expedited, while the federal government would be approached for major and long-term projects.
Pandey said that with the festive season approaching, making daily life easier for the affected residents was the government’s immediate priority.
He said the provincial government, local governments, security agencies, and all other relevant stakeholders would coordinate efforts to reopen blocked roads and infrastructure, provide relief, rescue and medical services, support rehabilitation, and reconstruct damaged structures.
