Senior Superintendent of Police Santosh Khadka, chief of the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, has given a statement before the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
Khadka appeared at the commission on Tuesday and gave his statement regarding an incident on Sunday afternoon in which NHRC officials who had gone to the Crime Investigation Office for monitoring were reportedly denied entry. The commission questioned Khadka for about an hour.
On Monday, the commission had written to the Police Headquarters requesting that Khadka be made available for questioning.
“He has already returned after giving his statement. Since the matter is under investigation, we do not know what he said,” said NHRC co-spokesperson Shyam Babu Kafle. “It has not yet been decided whether anyone else will be summoned.”
At around 3 a.m. on Sunday, a team led by DSP Yog Raj Khatiwada from the office arrived at the residence of former chief justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana in Bansbari.
The team took Rana into custody and brought him to the office. Police have said that Rana was brought to the office because of a security threat.
However, neither the police nor the government has disclosed who allegedly posed the threat or what kind of threat it was.
