Four provincial assembly members have been defeated in the election for central general convention delegates from Banke Constituency No. 2 under the ongoing 15th general convention of the Nepali Congress.
Lumbini Province Assembly members Maya Pun Magar, Sushila Nepali Badi, Mina Kumari Bohara Siddiqui, and former provincial assembly member Yakub Ansari were defeated in the election. All four are proportional-representation lawmakers.
In the Dalit category, Badi received 236 votes, while Maikulal Balmiki, who was elected, received 330 votes.
Pun Magar, who contested under the women’s category, received 215 votes. Siddiqui, who also contested in the same category, received 221 votes.
Uma Thapa Magar, Kalpana Regmi, Renu Singh Thakuri, and Narayani Rupakheti were elected from the cluster with 436, 309, 411, and 349 votes, respectively. Thapa Magar, who received the highest number of votes, is a former deputy mayor of Nepalgunj Sub-metropolitan City.
Nepalgunj Mayor Prashant Bista was also elected as a general convention delegate by a narrow margin.
Similarly, Duduwa Rural Municipality Chairman Narendra Kumar Chaudhary was elected president of the Nepali Congress Constituency No. 2 committee in Banke, defeating Birendra Bahadur Shah.
The final results of the election, held on Monday night, were released only on Tuesday morning.
Chaudhary, elected as the constituency president, secured 345 votes.
Ramesh Prasad Timilsina was elected secretary with 404 votes, while Rajkumar Balmiki was elected joint secretary with 382 votes. Nisha Regmi Gautam was elected unopposed as joint secretary.
