Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal held a meeting with Sri Lanka’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, Vijitha Herath.
Khanal, who is in New York to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, held the bilateral meeting with his Sri Lankan counterpart on the sidelines of the General Assembly.
The two ministers discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral relations between Nepal and Sri Lanka.
During the meeting, Minister Khanal thanked the government and people of Sri Lanka for expressing sympathy and solidarity with communities affected by Nepal’s recent devastating climate-related disaster and providing economic and humanitarian assistance to those affected.
The two ministers exchanged views on various aspects of the friendly and cooperative relations between Nepal and Sri Lanka. They emphasized the need to convene meetings of existing bilateral mechanisms and expressed their commitment to further expanding and strengthening bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including trade, tourism, education, culture, connectivity, and people-to-people relations.
