Former chief justice Rana released

Former chief justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana, who was taken into custody from his residence by police, has been released.

Superintendent of Police Rameshwar Karki said that Rana was handed over to his family from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office after 10 hours.

Police had taken Rana into custody from his residence in Maharajgunj at around 3 a.m. on Sunday.

He was subsequently taken to the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office in Teku.

There, he was kept in the office of SSP Santosh Khadka, the chief of the office. After keeping him there for 10 hours, police said that they had moved him to a “secure location.”

“We have taken him to a secure place that he deemed appropriate,” SSP Khadka told Setopati earlier. “We have also increased his security.”

However, police have not disclosed where Rana had been kept. Police said that they took him into custody because of a security threat, but did not provide details about what the threat was.
