The Nepali Congress faction led by former party president Sher Bahadur Deuba has finalized 783,836 active members for its 15th general convention.
Of them, 573,269 are members whose memberships were renewed, while 210,568 are newly enrolled members.
The Deuba faction is preparing to begin the general convention process after forming a 15th general convention preparation committee under the coordination of former general secretary Shashank Koirala. Ward-level conventions are scheduled to begin on October 1.
Kiran Raj Sharma Paudel, coordinator of the membership management committee, has already handed over the active membership details to election committee coordinator Egraj Pokharel.
Speaking at a press conference held in Chundevi on Saturday, Pokharel said that he had received the list of active members and that ward-level conventions would be held on October 1.
The Deuba faction has scheduled its 15th general convention for December 7 to 9.
The Deuba faction does not have an updated list of active members. It therefore appears to have recognized as active members those whose memberships were renewed or newly issued by January. However, the Deuba faction has also said that it has made it possible to apply for membership online. It has already launched a separate website for this purpose.
The Nepali Congress led by Gagan Thapa, meanwhile, has more than 870,000 active members, including updated membership records. The Thapa-led party establishment is currently holding constituency-level conventions after completing ward and municipal conventions.
