Nepali Congress leader Prakash Man Singh has said that they remain firm on holding the party’s 15th general convention.
He said that the general convention will be held from December 7 to 9.
“We have already moved forward from the 14th general convention toward preparations for the 15th general convention. The Nepali Congress did not want a special general convention. It is not appropriate to violate procedures and rules to fulfill anyone’s personal ambitions. Political issues and agendas are to be decided by the party itself, whereas judicial matters are to be looked into by the court,” he said at an event organized on Friday to mark the 29th death anniversary of Ganesh Man Singh. “Under any circumstances, we are determined to hold the 15th general convention in accordance with due process, following the 14th general convention.”
He said that it is the party’s responsibility to hold the general convention in accordance with the spirit and essence of the party statute and the Constitution of Nepal, while safeguarding the rule of law, people’s rights, and the national interest.
Singh also said that the Nepali Congress believes in democracy and the independence of the judiciary.
“Even when BP Koirala and Ganesh Man Singh returned to Nepal in 1976 with the policy of national unity and reconciliation, they gave priority to their political objectives and issues of nationalism. Although the Panchayat system prevailed in the 1979 student movement and referendum, the Congress did not abandon its democratic values. That continuity made change possible in 1990. Even today, the Congress must set an example by upholding its procedures, rules, and democratic values,” he said.
