The national gathering/conference of the Nepali Congress’ non-establishment faction, which did not participate in the special general convention, has concluded.
The gathering, which was inaugurated on August 14, concluded on Sunday after passing five proposals and adopting five decisions.
Former party president Sher Bahadur Deuba attended both the opening and closing sessions of the gathering.
Leader Prakash Sharan Mahat told Setopati that the conference concluded after adopting five decisions. The gathering also decided that future events of the faction would be organized under the coordination of former general secretary Shashank Koirala, who has now become the leader of the non-establishment faction.
The decisions are as follows:
1. The 15th general convention will be held under the decision and organization of the central committee elected by the 14th general convention, with party president Sher Bahadur Deuba presiding over it. The conference expresses firm belief that the 15th general convention will be possible under Deuba’s leadership and that the party would be united under him.
Until the 15th general convention, the coordinator of the national gathering/conference will coordinate the party’s necessary regular activities under the direction of the party president.
2. In 1976, BP Koirala returned to Nepal in view of the national crisis at the time and with a policy of national unity and reconciliation. The country is facing a difficult situation today as well. In this situation, the party will engage in dialogue with nationalist and democratic forces and work to strengthen nationalism and democracy.
3. Nepal’s religion and culture that have continued since ancient times are also our national identity. In view of the responsibility to protect the Hindu, Buddhist, Kirat and Prakrit religions that have been practiced since ancient times, the conference commits to advancing Sanatan religion as the nation’s identity, while ensuring the religious tolerance and social harmony that have prevailed in Nepal as well as the religious freedom of every individual and religious community to practice their faith.
4. Necessary amendments to the current Constitution will be pursued in line with public expectations by holding dialogue with all stakeholders in accordance with the constitutional provisions.
5. Central member NP Saud has been assigned the responsibility to compile and finalize the revised proposals incorporating the various suggestions presented during the Nepali Congress national conference held on August 15-16, 2026. The committee will include central members Umakant Chaudhary and Sita Rana, with central member Min Bahadur Bishwakarma and Deepak Prasad Kuinkel serving as assistants.
