Former Nepali Congress president and former prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the judiciary has repeatedly delivered justice to him.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the national gathering/conference organized by the party’s non-establishment faction on Sunday, Deuba said, “From the Supreme Court to all the courts, the judiciary has given us justice since the past. Even when the king imprisoned me, the Royal Commission was scrapped. The Panchayat regime also imprisoned me. Even now, the judiciary has saved me, which is why I have returned to Nepal.”
Deuba returned to Nepal last week after undergoing medical treatment in Singapore and Hong Kong for five months.
He said that they had filed a case at the Supreme Court regarding the special general convention. Deuba did not participate in the special general convention held in January.
“We have still filed a case in court. I had not agreed to hold a special general convention. I had proposed that we hold a special general convention with the consent of everyone in the party and not proceed this way. The special general convention was forcibly held, unfairly excluding many colleagues. We went to court against that,” he said. “I believe the court’s full judgment is yet to come. I don’t want to say much about the court before that. I trust the judiciary and will abide by its decision.”
One person had written a note asking Deuba to say something about a Sanatan Hindu nation.
In response, Deuba said, “Personally, I am a Hindu. I underwent the bratabandha (sacred-thread ceremony) and married according to Hindu traditions. I visit Pashupatinath and worship. What should or should not happen is for the people to decide. There should be religious freedom.”
He also said that he would never be able to forget those who came from the airport to the gathering venue to show their support and goodwill.
