Former lawmaker Dhawal Shumsher Rana, who resigned as general secretary of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) in June, is set to register a new political party on Friday.
According to party leader Sagun Sundar Lawati, they are scheduled to visit the Election Commission at 12:30 p.m. to register the party.
He said that the proposed party name is Jaya Nepal Party, with a triangle proposed as its election symbol.
However, Durga Prasai, who dissolved his Rastra, Rastriyata, Dharma, Sanskriti Tatha Nagarik Bachau Maha Abhiyan and joined Rana in forming a new party, is unlikely to participate in Friday's registration process.
According to leaders close to Prasai, they will not visit the Election Commission on Friday for party registration. They are instead preparing to form a separate party.
Differences have emerged between Rana and Prasai over several issues concerning the proposed party. The dispute arose after Prasai demanded some executive powers and top rank in the party hierarchy. Earlier, the two had agreed that Rana would be the party’s chairperson and Prasai the supreme leader.
Amid the differences, Prasai recently gave an interview targeting Rana, in which he said that “the Ranas do not want to bring the king back.” Rana’s camp was reportedly unhappy with Prasai over the remarks.
Lawati said that talks with Prasai were still ongoing as of Thursday and that further discussions would take place in a few days.
“We are going to register the party today. We were still talking with Prasaiji until yesterday, and further discussions will take place after submitting the application for registration,” he said.
Prasai, meanwhile, has hinted at establishing a separate party. Rana and Prasai had collaborated for about two months, advocating for "monarchy and a Hindu nation."
Prasai wrote on Facebook that he will form a separate party.
“The party we are going to form will be a common party for all Nepali citizens, all ethnic communities and all religions. This party, with a Vedic Sanatan Hindu kingdom, will be dedicated to the rights, interests and justice of the victims, exploited, oppressed, and ordinary citizens of the country,” he wrote. “Please be patient for some time; our party will be launched soon.”
