Former Nepali Congress president and former prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has returned to Nepal after spending five months in Singapore and Hong Kong for medical treatment.
Deuba was welcomed with fanfare by party leaders and workers at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu.
Shortly after landing in Kathmandu, Deuba issued an appeal. .
He said that he had returned to Nepal to strengthen national unity, not to seek power.
“I have returned to strengthen national unity, not to seek power,” Deuba said. “When BP Koirala returned to Nepal from exile in India in 1976, he declared that the time had come for all nationalist and democratic forces to unite. I believe that, 47 years later, there is again a need for broad-based national unity to strengthen our national unity.”
He called for choosing the path of reconciliation rather than revenge.
“I have returned not as a leader, but as a lifelong citizen of this great nation. I am ready to serve with humility, dedication, and love,” he said.
Deuba also said that disagreements and frustration within the Nepali Congress must be resolved immediately.
