The Supreme Court has granted permission to review the case related to the dispute over the Nepali Congress special general convention.
On Thursday, a bench comprising Chief Justice Manoj Kumar Sharma and Justices Nityananda Pandeya and Shreekanta Paudel heard the writ petition filed demanding a review of the order that had recognized the faction supporting the Nepali Congress special general convention as official.
The bench granted permission for the review.
With this, the order that dismissed the writ petition filed by former Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba will now be reviewed.
On April 17, a bench of judges Sharanga Subedi and Nripa Dhwaj Niraula had granted recognition to the committee under President Gagan Thapa – elected by the special general convention – and dismissed the petition filed by the Deuba faction.
Seeking a review of the order, Deuba had sent a petition through his legal representative on July 23.
Deuba and leader Purna Bahadur Khadka had moved the Supreme Court against the Election Commission’s decision to recognize the special general convention,. They had named the Election Commission, President Gagan Thapa and Vice-president Bishwa Prakash Sharma (elected by the special general convention) as defendants.
