The Koshi provincial government has decided to provide relief assistance to the families of those killed and injured in the violence in Dewangunj, Sunsari.
According to Chief Minister Hikmat Karki, the family of the person killed in the incident will receive Rs 200,000 in relief, while families whose homes, shops, or other properties were damaged in arson attacks, as well as those injured, will receive Rs 50,000 each.
Karki made the announcement during an all-party meeting he convened on Wednesday.
The meeting also adopted an eight-point resolution, appealing to all sides to exercise restraint and maintain social harmony.
Participants of the meeting paid tribute to Om Prakash Mehta, who was killed in the incident, and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
The meeting also decided that political parties, social organizations, and the administration would work together to preserve social harmony and communal unity. It agreed to organize all-party and all-stakeholder meetings at the local level and conduct programs aimed at promoting communal harmony.
To strengthen reconciliation and harmony at the community level, goodwill marches and public appeals will be organized in coordination with the local administration.
The meeting further decided that organizations representing all religious communities should issue a joint appeal and play an active role in coordination and facilitation. It also decided to heighten security vigilance against undesirable cross-border activities and urge the federal government to provide treatment support for the injured and relief to the family of the deceased.
In addition, the meeting requested the District Administration Offices concerned to coordinate efforts to strengthen security arrangements in the affected districts and surrounding areas to prevent similar incidents from recurring.
The meeting was attended by Chandra Bahadur Rai, provincial president of the Rastriya Swatantra Party; Uddhav Thapa, provincial president of the Nepali Congress; Ghanashyam Khatiwada, provincial chairman of the CPN-UML; along with representatives of various political parties, provincial chiefs of security agencies, and senior government officials.
