The dispute regarding the Nepali Congress special general convention has once again reached the Supreme Court.
The faction led by former party president Sher Bahadur Deuba has filed a petition demanding a review of the Supreme Court's order recognizing the central committee elected from the special general convention as official.
Joint Registrar Arjun Prasad Koirala, spokesperson for the Supreme Court, said that the petition was registered on Thursday through Deuba's legal representative.
On April 17, a bench of Justices Saranga Subedi and Nripa Dhwaj Niraula had granted recognition to the committee led by President Gagan Kumar Thapa, who was elected from the special general convention.
Earlier, then-president Deuba and leader Purna Bahadur Khadka had moved the Supreme Court challenging the Election Commission’s decision to grant recognition to the special general convention. They had named the Election Commission, President Gagan Thapa, and Vice-president Bishwa Prakash Sharma as defendants.
Now, a bench of three justices must decide whether or not to grant a review of this case. Once permission for review is granted through that decision, the case will move forward again.
Spokesperson Koirala said that justices sit only twice a month to decide whether or not to grant such reviews, and that no date has been finalized for making a decision regarding the petition.
