Bagmati government in crisis as UML ministers resign

Ministers from the CPN-UML have resigned from the government in Bagmati province.

They jointly submitted their resignations, effective from Wednesday. The joint resignation letter was submitted to Chief Minister Indra Baniya.

There were six ministers from the UML in the Bagmati government.

The government is led by Baniya, the leader of the Nepali Congress parliamentary party. The resignation of the UML ministers has plunged the Baniya-led government into crisis.

The number of ministries in Bagmati province was recently reduced from 14 to eight. Some ministers had been serving without portfolios.

Jagannath Thapaliya, leader of the UML parliamentary party, has also urged the chief minister to accept the resignations of the UML ministers.

There has reports that the UML and the Nepali Communist Party are preparing to form governments jointly in the provinces.

The Nepali Congress recently decided not to continue its cooperation with the UML.
