Sher Bahadur Deuba, outgoing president of the Nepali Congress and former prime minister, is set to return to the country within the month of Shrawan (mid-August).
According to information provided to Setopati by Deuba’s personal secretary, Bhanu Deuba, the former prime minister is preparing to return home within a month.
Deuba is currently in Hong Kong for medical treatment. "They will return home within this month," Bhanu Deuba said. "The exact date of return has not yet been finalized."
Additionally, former prime minister Deuba issued a press statement on Tuesday on the occasion of BP Koirala's memorial day, according to Bhanu Deuba.
Deuba also shared the statement on his official Facebook page.
In the statement, Deuba said that although he has been abroad for medical treatment over the past few months, his mind, thoughts, and concerns remain continuously focused on the country, its people, democracy, and national interests.
"I have been continuously monitoring the recent political developments in Nepal with serious concern and responsibility," he said. "The tendency to suppress the opposition by creating physical and psychological fear cannot be acceptable to any democratic society."
He also said that he is preparing to set foot on Nepali soil once again.
"I am setting foot on Nepali soil once again. The government may become vindictive and undemocratic, but I have complete faith in and a sense of dedication toward the democratic consciousness, patriotism, and belief in justice of the Nepali people," Deuba said.
Deuba and his wife, Arzu Rana Deuba, were attacked at their residence in Budhanilkantha during the Gen Z movement on September 9 last year. Since then, Deuba has traveled abroad several times for medical treatment.
