The government has decided to form a task force to review public holidays.
A meeting held on Monday under the leadership of Chief Secretary Govinda Bahadur Karki decided to form a committee to review other public holidays, as there are already two public holidays (Saturday and Sunday) in a week following the introduction of a two-day weekend.
The task force will be formed under the coordination of a joint secretary from the Ministry of Home Affairs and is required to submit its report to the ministry within 15 days.
Representatives from the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, Federal Affairs, and General Administration, and the Ministry of Finance will be part of the task force.
The government previously decided to introduce a two-day weekend citing difficulties in the supply of petroleum products.
