CPN-UML Chief Whip Ain Mahar has said that he has received death threats, including threats to shoot him.
Speaking in the House of Representatives meeting on Tuesday, Mahar said that some people who disliked his criticism of the government have threatened to shoot him.
“We have come to this House with a mandate from the people, to speak for the people. We do not oppose for the sake of opposing. We support and oppose based on merits and demerits. We want to show the government the right path,” he said. "However, it is unfortunate that some people apparently feel we are opposing the government when we are speaking in the House. I have been continuously receiving threats via Facebook and phone. They have threatened to shoot and kill me."
He revealed that two individuals commented on his Facebook status, providing their phone numbers and addresses and threatening to shoot him.
“Just recently, two people have commented on my status saying, ‘Ain Mahar, I swear on my mother, I will shoot you dead.’ They have given their names and addresses. One comment came from an ID named Parajuli Ram,” he said. “The number is 9703...... and he has said that he lives in Sangam Tole, Mahankal Chowk, Bauddha-6, Kathmandu. I want to inform the House about this. Similarly, I have also received a threat to shoot me from Purna Bikram Chhetri.”
