CPN-UML Chief Whip Ain Bahadur Mahar has said that the government must take full responsibility for the death of Ganesh Nepali, the ride-sharing driver who died after setting himself on fire.
Speaking to reporters at Bir Hospital following Nepali's death on Friday, Mahar said that the state must bear full responsibility for the incident.
He said that the current government has become cruel toward poor people.
“In every sense, the state must take responsibility for this. This is a clear example and proof that the state has completely failed and has been cruel toward the people and the poor,” he said. “Especially, the government’s policies have caused suffering to the people. The Balen government enforced rules in such a way that it forced people to such a point.”
Mahar claimed that the incident occurred because the government burdened the people with taxes without improving their conditions.
