The Special Court has granted permission to keep CPN-UML Senior Vice-chairman Bishnu Prasad Paudel in custody for an additional three days.
The court extended the remand for Paudel, who is in custody for investigation into money laundering charges, according to the court’s information officer Parbati Hitan.
A bench of Judges Narayan Prasad Paudel, Hemanta Rawal, and Umesh Koirala approved the extension.
The Department of Money Laundering Investigation has already held Paudel in custody and investigated him for seven days.
Paudel was arrested on June 22 after investigators linked him to share transactions involving Deepak Bhatta, who is currently in judicial custody pending trial in a money laundering investigation.
After receiving a letter from the department, police issued an urgent arrest warrant for Paudel and brought him to Kathmandu in a van.
After the Special Court authorized his detention, his wife Domaya filed a habeas corpus petition at the Supreme Court. During the preliminary hearing on the petition, a bench of Justice Shreekanta Paudel issued a show-cause order to the defendants.
The next hearing on the petition has been scheduled for Wednesday.
