Prime Minister Balen Shah has urged people not to cast any doubt on his nationalism.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the first general convention of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) in Bharatpur on Sunday, PM Shah said that people should not be concerned about his recent remarks regarding border issues.
"We will resolve matters ourselves by talking with our neighbor. We have the evidence. We will bring it forward. There is no need for suspicion regarding this. There is no need to have any doubt about my nationalism. No one should doubt it," he said.
He also said that the government is not seeking British mediation to resolve the border dispute with India.
“We said that if evidence from the time of British rule is needed, we will bring it. We have not sought to appoint the British as mediators,” he said.
Responding to lawmakers’ questions in the House of Representatives on May 31, PM Shah had said that Nepal has also encroached upon India’s land.
That statement drew strong criticism from opposition parties as well as from civil society.
He clarified his remarks during the party’s general convention.
