Former chief minister Rajendra Rai attempted to snatch and throw a microphone after storming the rostrum during a Koshi Provincial Assembly meeting on Wednesday.
As Speaker Ambar Bahadur Bista moved forward with the day's agenda despite protests from the opposition, Rai – who is a lawmaker from the Nepali Communist Party – leaped onto the rostrum.
When he yanked the microphone from the rostrum in an attempt to throw it, security personnel (marshals) intervened and stopped him. The speaker subsequently cautioned Rai to maintain parliamentary decorum.
Opposition lawmakers claimed they were denied the opportunity to register amendments to the government's policies and programs. However, the speaker maintained that no such amendments had been received from lawmakers.
