The government has revoked the registration of 12 trade unions.
On Wednesday, the Department of Labor and Occupational Safety scrapped the registration of eight trade unions registered under the Civil Service Act 1992, and four registered under the Health Service Act.
Earlier, the government issued an ordinance to amend some Nepal acts, scrapping party-affiliated civil servant unions and national-level trade unions.
The decision to revoke the registration of these trade unions was made on Wednesday by the department's registrar.
The civil servant trade unions whose registrations have been revoked include the Nepal Civil Servants Organization, Nepal Civil Servants Union, Nepal National Civil Servants Organization, Nepal Madheshi Civil Servants Forum, Nepal Health Workers Association, Madheshi Health Workers Forum Nepal, Unified Government Employees Organization Nepal, and Independent Civil Servants Organization Nepal.
Additionally, health service unions including the Nepal Health Workers Union, Health Workers Union Nepal, National Health Workers Association Nepal, and National Progressive Health Workers Organization have also had their registrations canceled.
