Prakash Rasaili, joint general secretary of the Nepali Congress and coordinator of the election committee, has said that the parliamentary party leader will be selected by 1 p.m. on Monday.
Discussions are currently being held under the coordination of Vice-president Bishwa Prakash Sharma to forge consensus on the parliamentary party leader.
Rasaili said that the central committee will meet on Monday, after which the election committee will proceed with the selection. During the central committee meeting, party President Gagan Thapa is expected to propose the candidate for parliamentary party leader based on the recommendation of the Sharma-led task force.
“The party’s central committee meeting will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. As per the parliamentary party statute, the party shall make efforts to select the parliamentary party leader through consensus. The party is already working toward consensus. The party president will probably propose a name at the central committee meeting tomorrow, and based on that, the election committee will select the parliamentary party leader at 1 p.m. in accordance with the statute,” he said.
Internal deliberations are ongoing within the Nepali Congress to select the parliamentary party leader through consensus.
The party currently has 38 lawmakers in the House of Representatives. Among them, lawmakers Arjun Narsingh KC, Bhishma Raj Angdembe, Mohan Acharya, Yogesh Gauchan Thakali, Basana Thapa, and Nishkal Rai, among others, are aspirants for the post.
