A case has been filed against CPN-UML leader Karna Bahadur Malla on charges of rape and offenses against protection of pregnancy.
According to Superintendent of Police Gautam Mishra of the District Police Range, Lalitpur, the District Government Attorney's Office registered the case in the District Court on Monday.
"Following the completion of the police investigation, the Government Attorney's Office filed the case today," he said.
Jamuna Khatri, 29, had filed a complaint against Malla at the Lalitpur Police Office on February 16, accusing him of rape and forced abortion.
After Malla was not arrested for a month following the complaint, Khatri staged an indefinite hunger strike at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu from March 22 to March 28. Malla was eventually arrested on March 28.
Although Jamuna ended her hunger strike following his arrest, she continues to hold a sit-in protest at Maitighar Mandala.
She maintains that she will not leave the streets until she receives justice.
