DP Aryal elected speaker unopposed

Kathmandu, April 5

Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Vice-President Dol Prasad (DP) Aryal has been elected House speaker unopposed.

Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker Arjun Narasingh KC, who has been chairing House meetings in capacity of the senior most House of Representatives (HoR) member, declared him elected unopposed on Sunday as his was the only candidacy filed for the post.

RSP has 182 seats in the lower House which is nearly a two-third majority. The path for him to become speaker unopposed was cleared after the opposition parties in a weakened position did not register any candidacies.

RSP President Rabi Lamichhane hugged Aryal to congratulate him after the announcement of his election as speaker. Other lawmakers from various parties present at the meeting also offered him their congratulations.
